Post 3: My Supporter

The person I know will support me and help me through anything is my older sister. She and I are only a year and a half between us, we grew up together, we enjoyed the same games and TV shows, we went to school together. I know that when I need some help, she will always give me advice that I know will work for me. She went to university first while I took a break, but she never hesitated to help me when it came time to start applying and getting ready for college. I remember as she signed me up for my classes for first semester, she made a colour-coded schedule for me with all my classes with the times, rooms, and which building they’re in. She even set it up to give me notifications an hour before class, knowing I forget sometimes. She never judges me, and I know she will always be there when I need her no matter what.

I asked my mother for her experiences, as she had been living in the neighbourhood for longer than I have been alive. Yet she produced a memory that I was involved in, claiming to truly remember anything her children were in better than before her children. The year is forgotten, but I was in elementary school when my school decided to hold a fun fair. There were games for prizes and exhibitions, and my mother took me and my younger sister after school to enjoy. They had an animal exhibit, where kids could touch and hold the animals, and I wanted to hold the snake! My mother was terrified, but seeing my excitement, she had to agree. Keeping a close eye on me, she watched as the snake wrapped around my neck. Then, my mother held the snake, completely unafraid and brave while holding it. She explained she had seen bigger snakes in her home country and this was nothing!

My neighbourhood is called Lawrence Heights, and I’ve lived in it my whole life. It’s very well-connected, as it has a health centre, a community centre, a public housing office, all levels of schooling (elementary, middle, AND high school), as well as a nice shopping mall that recently was renovated! There’s a Fortinos for groceries, a Marshall’s for clothing, phone and internet stores, self-care stores (salons), a gym, and a major bank. Plenty of places for enjoyment and job opportunities. On my walk, I observed multiple places people gather and enjoy themselves. There’s multiple parks, including 2 water parks and multiple jungle gyms, there’s fields for sports such as football and track, there’s bike lanes on the streets, and plenty of open spaces under tall trees to rest and picnic. I enjoy the connected nature of my neighbourhood and that I could really enjoy a fulfilling life within just my neighbourhood. There’s a connected transit that can take me to other places outside of my ...
